View USDA PDF VersionNot enough cattle on offer this week to establish a trend, however an uneven undertone was noted. Winter Storm Fern curtailed receipts in the state this week as only around 3K head of cattle were reported at auctions this week. Bone chilling cold and treacherous road conditions were prevalent over the period of Jan 24-27. Slaughter cows and bulls sold 2.00 to 6.00 higher. Kansas negotiated fed cattle sales sold 4.00 to 5.00 higher at 238.00 to mostly 240.00. In the hay market, Hay movement during the past week remained slow but steady, with minimal change observed in overall market conditions. Producers across much of the state received some moisture during the reporting period, occurring as rain, snow, or a combination of both. Market participants continue to balance the decision between holding hay in storage in anticipation of improved prices and moving existing supplies to make room for the upcoming new crop.
