View USDA PDF Version***Close*** Compared to the last sale, two weeks ago, feeder steers and heifers sold 3.00-6.00 higher. Steer calves under 600 lbs. sold 20.00-40.00 higher. Heifers calves sold 6.00-9.00 higher. Demand was very good on a very light supply. Last week's sleet, snow and ice continue to make transporting cattle difficult. Today's market was very active with many buyers and too few cattle in the offering. Last week's USDA Cattle on Feed Report had Inventories down 3 percent, Placements down 5 percent and Marketings up 2 percent. The semi-annual Cattle Inventory had everything, except for dairy cows, lower than last year, making the beef herd the smallest in 75 years. The CME Feeder Cattle and Live Cattle Futures responded to these bullish reports by trading higher on Monday and Tuesday.
