Data sourced from USDA AMS
View USDA PDF VersionCompared to the last reported sale two weeks ago, steer calves under 500 lb's were lightly tested but sold with a lower undertone while steers over 500 lb's sold mostly 10.00-20.00 lower. Heifers sold uneven with the calves being the exception and bright spot selling 3.00-15.00 higher, heifers over 550 lbs sold 7.00-20.00 lower. The last two weeks have provided mostly negative news to the cattle market with the closing of a major plant and war in the Middle East causing the board and fed cattle to trade lower. The grazing type cattle and lighter calves have held up better than the yearlings headed straight to the feedyard. Demand was moderate to good for a moderate supply that consisted of mostly long weaned yearling type cattle. A highlight was two loads of fancy 7 weight heifers selling in one crack. Slaughter cows sold 2.00-10.00 lower with the fleshier cows holding up the best, bulls sold steady.
